Why Do We Gain Weight?

Does weight gain indicate a disease? Or is it just a metabolic balance issue?

Creatures that compete around food and always have to live on low calories are programmed to accumulate the excess food they catch to use in times of famine. Plants synthesize carbohydrates and fats and store them in their bodies during seasons when the sun is strong. Animals, on the other hand, convert the excess calories they find into animal fats and accumulate them under their skin and around their internal organs.

The human body is also like this. So, when you consume more food than necessary, your body will do what it should and save the excess calories by turning them into fat for bad days. This protective mechanism, which was life-saving in times when food was hard to come by and competition was deadly, has unfortunately turned into a metabolic balance problem in modern times, when it has become extremely easy to obtain calories.

Constantly consuming more calories than you consume causes a serious problem that disrupts the comfort of life. The medical name for this problem is obesity. Obesity refers to an increase in the muscle-bone-water-fat ratios in the body in favor of fat, thus disrupting the balance.

Of course, there are also hormonal or metabolic diseases that directly cause obesity, such as excessive cortisol secretion or diabetes, which should not be overlooked in the differential diagnosis. In this case, the real problem that slows down the metabolism needs to be identified and corrected. Diagnostic methods for metabolism are used to detect the problem. However, in the majority of patients who apply to clinics with weight problems, no real cause of the problem can be identified.

Most people with excess weight and poor fat balance have a perfectly normal metabolism. However, the environment we live in has changed considerably compared to the environment in which our ancestors lived, from whom we inherited genetic information. The real problem is not with you, it is with the environment you live in. By accessing food more easily than previous generations, you have acquired wrong eating habits.

In this situation, which I can also define as city syndrome, a body that moves little despite eating easily and a lifestyle that facilitates this are at the center of the problem.

Therefore, a lazy and slowing metabolism, even though it does not have a medical problem, is the real problem.

Slowing metabolism also causes chronic fatigue that does not decrease with rest. Even your mind is affected by this fatigue, you need more caffeine or stimulant drugs to wake up. In this case, acupuncture as a good metabolic regulator and ozone treatments as a method to revitalize metabolic activities stand out as powerful options.
